David Grubb

Shire Folk Review

High Rise Review: Shire Folk Magazine

David Grubb from Fife graduated in 2013 with a degree in Classical music form the RWCMD. This, his first album, is an amazingly complex piece of writing and composing, and exhibits brilliant musicianship. Although you can hear traces of his classical training, it is fused with folk from his Scottish roots, some blues and a lot of jazz improvisation. There is some wonderful jazz-style piano throughout by Corben Lee. In many ways the album as a whole reminded me of the latest LAU album, in that it has the same extravagant style. Many artists claim the have a unique style, but in David Grubb I think he has, and that this could be the start of a very bright future.
